Experiences of horses with a Tie back?

I've got one and know another very well. No problems whatsoever. Mine doesn't cough, eats dry hay from a net not the floor and is to all intents a normal horse. He was done three years ago and has hunted a season with it. He has a very slightly increased propensity to a snotty nose and has had antibiotics once for it. Your biggest problem will probably be that he may be uninsurable for any breathing difficulties or respiratory tract infections, so you need a price reduction to cover for that. Find out what they feed him, some cough badly if their food is not damped.

Hope that helps.

One of my horses had a tie back, it worked fine, no real problems. You just need to take a little care, I fed damp haylage off the floor rather than hay, because dust can irritate them a bit more and dampen any feed a bit. Otherwise no problems at all. Infections can happen with dust in the lung but we didn't have any.
