My horse was kicked, had a sequestrum, now found out the middle ligament over his patellar is damaged.
It has a hole in the centre.

Any experiences of anything similar?

He may need an operation to remove the bone chip, but risk this could cause more damage.

Vet said there may be permanent damage that would affect his transitions.

Mine has the same injury. He had shock waves which helped. It never fully healed though. I did not want to go diwn stem cell route as he was 12 at the time of yhe injury. He is 16 now and sound. He can do low level dressage and jumps up go 3.3ft. Key with him is to keep him slim and fit and ride correctly (warm up, outline etc). If we don't, he ends up stumbling at hind. Saying that he has done the 20 miles at Newmarket twice since the injury :-)
so, yes, the hole still shows but it doesn't affect a riding-club type of work.

My boy had a torn middle ligament back in May, did it messing around in the field..same thing a huge clear hole in the middle of it..vet was so sorry for us as they are some of the hardest ligament to repair..and the most uncommon to damage. We were really expecting to have to say goodbye to him.. he was box rested for ten days..he had a weekly jab of something which name escapes me..but i can find out..then he has been turned out in a very small paddock as he could no longer cope with box rest and was charging around his box so not resting!!
He has come back into work about 6 weeks ago and fingers crossed is sound..up to full work and just started jumping again. vet is amazed and very pleased with him..we just hope he stays sound when jumping full time again...he is 15yrs old not easy ride...so has to be able to jump ..he does not hack out easily..hate's dressage and handful to do..so we are taking the gamble to compete him fully again and fingers crossed it last's..

It's scarey to think there could be permenant damage.
He is only 7
Has huge potential, scopey jump and eventing up to pre novice so far.
That's after having a year of due to an eye problem.
So he has done so well already, the though of it being cut short is so sad.
