Has anyone used Bailey's no. 6 before?

If so, what for?

Did it work?

Is it palatable?

Just wondering, thanks in advance to everyone :)

I was tempted to give it a try when it frst came out as it sounded like it would suit my horse and his workload at the time....until I discovered the price - horrendously expensive!

My skinny tb has been on it a few weeks now, on Bailey's recommendation.

He was up to 1 stubbs scoop per day over 2 feeds but I have reduced it to 1 mugful twice a day as he has been a bit full of it the past couple of weeks.

He also changed from hay to haylage about 1 week after starting the baileys no 6 plus weather and a few more days off than normal - can't say which of these things may be causing behaviour - prob combination of all!

So have reduced to 1 mug to see if it makes a difference or not. He is also on balancer as even 1 stubbs scoop per day is not the recomended amount so will be short on vits etc, 1 mug of blue bag grass nuts twice a day, 1 stubbs scoop of chaff twice a day, and a big glug of oil.

I have struggled to keep weight on him all winter but due to his age and type was wary of giving him a conditioning product so this is what Baileys have recommended.

I'd be interested to see what others think.

I originally rang Baileys to find out the ingredients in their hi-light budget brand conditioning cubes and nutritional analysis but they told me the no 6 would be much better for him so I decided to try it despite cost because I have been trying all winter to get some weight on him!

p.s. we don't do endurance!

Put him on Allen & Page weight gain and nothing else - works wonders. I tried everything with my tb... alfa a oil, topline, build up, outshine, brewer's yeast, soya oil etc etc... Tried weight gain with alfa a oil, was ok... Just tried weight gain with a bit of water and it literally looked like he was in show condition. Every trainer I had out thought I had a lovely warmblood ;) lol!!!!

I would love to put my mare on Weight Gain but I can't give her mix as she's too young and a heavier breed. :)

I have my BSH on bailys endurance mix I do dressage with him. I love it, he's not on much but his condition overall is great! I like this mix in comparison to others as it doesn't seem to make his behaviour change. I used competition mix in the past and I saw a dramatic change in his behaviour, he became very spooky and very sharp!

it is based on outshine, so it may be worth just getting a bag of that and adding that to your existing feed.

I quite like the stuff and it didn't send my TB nuts. If I ever get back to that level of work then I will probably look at it again.

I use it for my good doer ISH.

He has a tendancy to be quite a laid back chap but also can get a bit flat when out competing by the time we come to do a second dressage test. I spoke to Baileys and they suggested this over the comp mix due to the lower starch level.

I haven't been out competing since starting on it but he is definately offering me 'forward' more easily and looks really well.

He is only getting a large mug full in each feed at the moment as due to weather haven't been out competing/to lessons as much but once in a few weeks I will see how he is managing once back out and about and will increase it if necessary. He is fed this alongside Lo-cal and Showshine Chaff. If we up the endurance mix I will cut the lo cal out.

I have used A&P with success for him in the past but my boys are on full livery so its easier for the yard to not have to soak feeds - also found he put weight on more easily with the P&P than the endurance mix.

We use it and love it! :D

Only use on the full TB at the moment who events (well does everything!). He hotted up on No 4 but stays calm, keeps condition and works well on No 6.

Firstly started using this on my eventer who was just on no 4 (lost condition easily), but wanted some more variety in his feed, so fed No4 and No6 together. It worked really well on him, which is why the other is now on it!
