Right, this horse will not be for sale for the foreseeable future. As in for the next 3 years at least. This is an experiment...

Well-bred (papers to prove this breeding) horse out of a sire who has thrown consistently good horses. Beautifully made, with big paces and a big, careful jump. Bold and brave XC, always clear XC at 90cm and 1m. Completed several ODEs with good dressage, clear XC and the occasional pole SJ. Ready to start the season at 1m. Scope to go up to Intermediate according to experienced trainers. SJ schooling at 1.0m-1.10m happily. Established flatwork, although no on-paper results yet! 16.3hh, ridden and schooled by 16yo girl. Good out hacking

How much would you say he was worth?

Now, how much would you drop that by if you knew he was an ex-point-to-pointer/ hurdler who's only been in work for a year? And why would you drop it?

(for anyone interested in the breeding, he's by Alflora out of Country Choice)

I don't really understand your post because you say the advert will appear in 3 years time, so presumeably the horse hasn't actually done any of these things yet then ? There are loads of horses out there with potential. The only thing that matters is an actual competition record that can be proven - ie an affiliated record, then you can push the price up, and then it does not matter that once he was a hurdler.

Why mention a 16 year old girl rides him - it means nothing. There are loads of bonkers brave teenagers riding horses, it would not tell me he was a quiet ride, if that is what you are inferring.

I assume this is perhaps for an insurance valuation or something like that? I have no idea what sort of value to put on him other than I am looking for a similar sort of horse and the market prices range from around £2000-3750 depending on how much the horse has done.

I was interested, as it seems in this part of HHO the fact he's a TB/ ex-racer will decrease any value a lot. I was wondering how people would value with the knowledge he was TB, but first without that knowledge.

The not for sale for ages, if ever, was to avoid button-pushers! I don't want to be told off for advertising, when there is no chance that I am!

The 16yo bit wasn't inferring he was quiet (as he isn't really) but that he isn't completely psycho/ can be ridden by younger jockeys.

And the things mentioned, he has done. In three years we're hoping he'll have done a lot more, lol!

ETA- not insurance, he's insured for what we believe it would take to replace a horse of his potential.

Well because you are using a martingale your horse obviously isn't schooled enough so I would say £100 max.

Only joking, lovely looking horse, not sure about price as I'm useless with things like that.
Can I say again I really like him! :D

We only use the martingale 'cos it means we don't have to school him, we can just strap his head and we're off... :D

Disclaimer: the martingale is a seatbelt. It's not used, until it's needed at which point we're all grateful it's there. He does everything in it until he goes into the arena for a dressage comp, when it is whipped off. Rider also wears spurs... O.o

Have to say he looks like a really nice chap and I'd count myself very lucky to find a similar sort. Horse hunting is doing my head in!
