Well referring from my previous thread about what to feed my TB on I think I've found a good selection of feeds for the time-being.
Now the aim is to put weight and condition on him as he's started to drop quite a lot on the past few weeks but I don't want anything that will send him through the roof. Has anyone had experiences with the following feeds?

Chaff -
Alfa A Oil
Mollichaff ShowShine

Cubes -
Dodson & Horrell Build Up Cubes
Baileys Number 4 Topline Cubes
Baileys Economy Cubes

Then definitely some Micronized Linseed for a supplement in his feed.

I'm going to look at the feed specifications/ingredients now (They're a bugger to find).

I read the Mollichaff is full of sugar and can turn horses into monsters. True?

I'm also open to recommendations :)

I would definitely go for the Alpha A Oil over the Mollichaff. Even if it doesn't turn your horse crazy its not good for their hoof quality to eat anything with that much sugar in it.

I would exercise caution with the Bailey's No 4 Top Line!! Fed this to mine when he came out of racing and he was a nutcase! Of course wouldn't affect all the same and you may find yours completely fine with it

I find with mine that good quality fibre is the way to go. Too much hard food of any type causes him to react and tends to have a cumulative effect so I try and steer away from too much protein or sugar. He is a naturally buzzy horse though and they're all different of course :)

He's worked 6 days a week through autumn/winter as limited turnout and I found he did really well on mainly ad lib haylage last winter. In fact, he was only getting handful of pony nuts as hard feed until Feb and I then introduced Calm & Condition as he was starting to look on the light side. This doesn't seem to heat him up

I've just started both of mine on Simple Systems regime so will see how they do over this winter. Fibre based feed which is molasses and cereal free and the balancer has micronised linseed within it. They both seem to be doing well on it so far - as to whether it heats them up, test will be first team chase of the season with the ISH tomorrow!! :D

I have used Baileys topline cubes before and liked it.
My mare was fine on it - well the same as on any other feed. I am now a simple systems fan too and she is now fed this only. It is more natural and she looks and feels great (at 21).

I have used those particular feeds, but I do like Bailey's. I use no.17 conditioning mix and helped my slightly skinny TB put weight on nicely and in all the right places and he's nice a shiny too.

Go with Equilibra. It keeps them looking well without hotting them up. They need very little so it is not expensive.

I do not feed the Alpha chaff that goes with Equilibra as I found that some of the horses would go over the top on Alpha, I feed a chopped grass as a bulk.

feeds are such a minefield, what suits one will not suit another

out of personal choice i would avoid anything high in sugar/coated in molasses even if you ignore the heating up and hoof health views (I am not disagreeing with them) horses teeth are not designed to cope with that sort of diet so I always try to avoid them

calm and condition is coated in mollasses (most mixes are)at work we feed slow release energy cubes to one that needed to put on weight she is now huge cos my boss wont let me stop feeding them! but obviously they did the job

Have u thought about pure feeds - pure condition with some added linseed.?

Another vote for Pure Feeds condition. All my horses are on Pure feeds and they all look great. The feed itself smells devine. I find it much easier than feeing a separate chaff/alfa A and cubes.
