:confused:We have viewed (and tried out) a lovely pony in North Yorkshire which we are thinking of purchasing depending on the results of a 5 stage vetting.
I've been out of the UK for quite a few years now so would like to make sure that I'm not being ripped off by the vets in the area when I ring them to ask for price for a 5 stage vetting. (They may try to take advantage of the fact that we are no longer in the UK so are not aware of the prices).

I would also like to know what the price is for chipping and for vaccinations as the pony has not been chipped and needs her vaccinations to be restarted. I'm thinking here of tetanus and equine influenza, what others do you think I should consider, especially as if she passes the vetting she will be moved to The Netherlands. Don't have the passports of my current 3 with me and can't remember what else they have been vaccinated for.

Also anyone have any idea what the going price is for transporting a pony from the North of England to The Netherlands? I don't particularly want it done in 1 go as I think this would stress her (and me!) too much. Would rather that it be done in stages.

All constructive replies appreciated.

My OH is Dutch and he retired his ex eventer back home about 6 years ago, I think it was around £400 to transport her back to The Netherlands.

I am guessing at around £250 for a 5 stage vetting (this is a guess though as not had one vetted in UK for a while). As for jabs I think they are normally around the £40 each mark plus a call out fee, if the horse passes the vetting get the first jab done at the same time to save an extra call out fee.

Looking at the passport of one of mine that was imported from Holland to UK, he has just had the same jabs as a UK horse i.e. flu and tetnus

I had a horse sent on a transporter from Belgium earlier this year and used ETA who charged me £450 for transport and import papers. They picked the horse up neer Peer in Belgium and it was delivered to Buckinghamshire. Obviously this will be more for a pick up from North Yorkshire. Your horse will need an export license (from DEFRA) and health papers to travel. The export license is pretty straight forward to obtain yourself, you can apply for the health papers to be sent to you vet and your own vet, if they are on the DEFRA approved list can visit the horse and complete the paperwork. Last time I took one abroad the export licence was free (I sorted that myself) and the health papers cost me about £120 (transport company sorted this and my ferry ticket).

Your best bet is to get the transport company to do the paperwork for you as they and their vets do this all the time. Another benefit of the transporter doing the paperwork is that the health papers expire after 48 hours, the transport company can arrange the relevant paperwork within their timescales. You may find that the transport company will arrange a stop over in Dover for your horse to be inspected by the vet for the papers to be issued.

Exciting times and I hope your chosen horse passes the vet.
