My pony has PPID and EMS amongst other medical issues and is on Prascend. She is now 21 and retired. For the last few years I have struggled to keep her weight low as recommended by the vets.

This year however although she is on almost ad lib fibre and a small hard feed as recommended by a nutritionist, she has lost too much weight in my opinion. She is rugged.

Her hard feed is 4 handfuls of Dengie Hi Fi Molasses Free, the recommended amount of Top Spec Anti Lam, the recommended amount of micronised linseed, a few bits of carrot and one Prascend.

I am therefore looking to add something to her diet to put some weight on and am thinking of unmolassed sugar beet. Any other ideas?

Do u have a current picture? It's just I work within the feed industry and all the time I hear this, but the pony is either a lovely healthy weight or still slightly fat. As a nation we are to use to seeing and accepting fat as the norm!
How much linseed are you feeding? Personally I would up the linseed if the pony needed extra condition,

No current photo as I have just got back from holiday but will take one weather permitting. According to the weigh tape she is not far off what was her ideal weight. It is mainly her back end where she looks a bit 'gaunt'. Will check again how much micronised linseed she is having.

You could add speedibeet to her feed, I do with my 19 yr old (who's still in work) over the winter months, helps him maintain his weight and gives him a bit more energy in work before the grass starts growing again, then I drop it over the summer...you could also up her soaked hay?

My first thought would have been to 'up' the linseed too.... that and as Micky has said... perhaps a rationing of beet in there too.

My 38 year old has cushings and lost weight last year, long story but ended up on Topspec Fibre Plus cubes and their senior lite balancer. I was given 5 feeds a day and in 4 weeks had put weight on, another 4 weeks and was at the weight I wanted to now maintaining on less feed and he is now eating the hay

Having checked the amount of linseed I realise that I stated wrongly that she was having the recommended amount. When I started giving it to her she still needed to lose weight and so she has only been having apx 90gms.
She only has one feed a day so how much do you think I could increase it to bearing that in mind?
