I have noticed my mare has gotton a small patch under her belly (infront of the teats where the fur changes) that has gone bald and a bit swollen and very very itchy,
any ideas? will post pics if i get chance

My gelding has too. Last time he had this my vet gave him a 5 day course of Finadyne and this cleared it right up. He sits on his drinker and rubs....quite a sight! I think it's probably midges, but will be interested in other peaoples advise.

yes assumed it would be something like that, she can be a bit sensitive and has started to rub her tail to pieces now- her eye will puff up soon so i best dig the fly mask out before she is partially blinded!

One of my ponies just came home from being on loan with this. She had lice, treated her for the lice with powder twice. Then the belly area got bigger and bigger and osre and lumpy and she also developed other patches. Vet came, left some mud fever cream for belly (has steroid in it and helped a lot) but other patches still developing. No lice present when vet came. Vet returned week later and we both found lice again - newly hatched. So pony has been clipped bathed and covered in Coopers.
