It may be worth contacting Libby's and see if they can come up with anything for you, they make to measure so may be able to come up with something. Other thing is possibly something made out of chamois leather or kid, soft leather that wouldn't rub his face or bad eye and that would attach at cheek piece and browband. Good luck, he is a lovely looking boy!

Have a word with Box of Frogs, I'm sure she had a patch made for her horse.

Maybe a harness maker could cobble you up something based on a driving bridle blinker? You haven't got an old driving bridle lying about that you can utilise have you? Pick one up at an auction maybe?

You could try Gibsons in Newmarket. They are very good at making up bits of leather work etc. Putting bibs on martingales and that kind of thing. I know they're miles from you but I'm happy to pick up for you and post if they can't post themselves

http://www.gibson-saddlers.com/

could be worth a phone call at least?

Are there any more Odey pictures for us to drool over yet?

Giibsons will post, I've just ordered something from them.

I was looking at their blinkers just now, as Jess said ,maybe they could customise something for you NP.

I will certainly keep my ear to the ground. I wish I could take him myself but the boy would definitely leave me if I took on another one and I need him to pay the rent so I can pay for the ones I already have!

Hope you manage to find someone to make the eye patch :) I looked for a while but couldnt find anything so ended up just sewing some thick black material onto Pharaoh's fly mask and had to ride with it. It was annoying to do at first but we got used to it lol.

Native ponies, how did he lose his eye? or was he born like that. I have a 3yr old DWbxTB who was born with out the eyeball, he has the optic nerve and the socket, but no eyeball. So when you look at the socket there appears to be a stalk in it, I have spoken to the vets and he is absolutely fine, no need to stitch it up, in fact the vets prefer it left as it is becasue by stictching up the eyelids he runs the risk of an infection setting in. He never has any issues about vision, but I was looking for something similar to you for when I break him as there is the danger that he will catch it on the hedges/ trees while out hacking and I want to protect it from that.

I was looking at getting something similar made, that would fix on the cheek piece and head piece. I had spoken to my local saddler and she said she would make something if i could come up with a design that would work

As Enfys says, my horse Sunny had to have an eye removed too. As time goes by, your friend's horse's empty eye socket will sink inwards to become concave. Sunny had an accident in the trailer when I was moving yards. He jerked away from the horse he was travelling with and, seeing nothing on his blind side, assumed there actually WAS nothing there and cracked his eye socket on the trailer wall. I couldn't risk that happening again so I had Helen Reader (harness maker) to make an eye patch for him. It's made of the same felt-backed leather that they make high quality poll guards out of and it fits onto a standard head collar. Absolutely brilliant. No time now (dressage judging tomorrow, crack of dawn) but I'll put a pic up late Saturday. Or you can Google Helen Reader, she's in S Wales.

Hasn't he still got the eye? The horse I knew was kicked as a younster and the eye looked pretty much like Odey's (what a name, np). Not sure why it wasn't removed, but the horse was at least ten when I saw it. I wasn't sure if O was born with it, or had an accident. It must have been horribly painful?

Anyway, good luck with the patch. I'm thinking it would be pretty straightforward to make. Photo's afterwards, please.
