My 5yo new forest cross mare has a inflammed eye. It's inflammed at the corner and is quite red and is also making the eye quite weepy, like crying. It's a little inflammed on the outside. My mum got some gunk out of it but it is still quite inflammed. She can see out of it and is not effecting her being ridden.

Any advice??!!

I would get the vet out asap.

You can't risk it with eye probs.

could be conjunctivitis
uveiitis or such.

Keep it clean till vet can see and pro prescribe drops.:)

A vet would know best, and if I was you I'd get one out if it looks as if it's not starting to heal. But if you just want to keep it clean in the meantime, it works really well to make a very very strong cup of tea - leave the teabag in the cup - let it cool down and then use the soaked teabag to wash the corners of the eye and underneath the lower lid where there's probably some gunk. Also, I'd use a fly mask when he's turned out.

What eye drops did you put in the eye? Over the counter products or ones you can make at home can only ever soothe a tired eye. You need antibiotic drops if the eye has an infection eg conjunctivitis. And if you're using another horse's eye drops then on your own head be it as they may be unsuitable or out of date. Your horse may have an infection or may have scratched the cornea or indeed may still have a foreign body embedded in the cornea. Eyes are fragile and very precious. Your horse needs the vet pronto.
