I noticed my Welsh D had an eye twitch a few months ago and figured it would just go away as twitches do with humans. However it is still visible. Its only his right eye which does it and it does it not permanently but very often (ie. daily I notice it) and today at a show, his nostrils were twitching as well... so now Im getting a bit concerned. Does anyone have any ideas on this?

This is a completely new one to me and must be worrying. I would probably ask for full blood profiles to start with if it's been going on for some time. I would be very interested to hear how he gets on.

Box_of_Frogs is pretty hot on eyes and she would be my first port of call on here.

have no idea but if you find out let me know. one of mine has had this for about 2 months now. but i think it has got slightly better? vet came out and said he has no clue what it is. checked to make sure it wasnt something to do with her eye or the start of what could be headshaking but she has no other signs. shes not bothered by it. its only one side of her face and you can watch the twitch go from her nose up her face to her eye then down between her front legs. very odd! how strange it is also the right eye!

Weird that your one has it as well. I was almost thinking maybe he had bashed his head really hard - you know that can cause things like this in humans but then he's not had any cuts etc. The horse unfortunately is allergic to many things (grass...hay mould...etc.) so as a result his skin is always sensitive and is easily irritated. But as this isnt really a skin problem, Im not really linking it.

I should add both his eyes are fine and he's acting normally etc. its just his lower and upper eyelids that flicker and as I said today, his nostrils were twitching for about 15 minutes.

I get repeated twitches in one of my eyelids, and for a while I had one in my leg muscles too. It could be just a normal thing, but at the time of the leg one I put it down to the fact that I handle anti-convulsant drugs daily for my epileptic mare, and twitches are a known side effect of potassium bromide in particular. Interestingly, she used to get a really annoying and quite substantial but intermittent twitch in her upper lip/muzzle which sometimes made eating a bit awkward for her but I haven't observed it for a few years now, thank goodenss. I always assumed it was caused by her drugs.
