Just a quicky..(for once!) after Jessies recent colic episode, she's seemed down in her immuity & just the last few days when i thought we were getting there, with her really perky once again she had a vet mis diagnose an abscess which was actually cracked heels pain on a dark hind limb-he said no..no abscess appeared yet she went broken leg lame when i hosed her legs off each time she got muddy..tho the cracks were small he didn't believe it was that...& then funny little noduley growths below her hind fetlocks -about the size of the coloured tiny round ends on bic biros..these seem to be going..she then had cold/wind chap on her chin from always standing with her head out thru the recent bitter cold snap in a very open to the elements yard & still being on 4 wet feeds and soaked hay fed in a net. Then on the 7th night after her colic (thru which I'd noticed her being more clicky in her rear fetlocks than usual, she suddenly started having locking fetlocks..stiff when stood still, but fine once moving. This has improved massively and i've been bandaging her all round at night & excercise wraps thru the day.She hasn't ever been a sick or sorry type, very happy go lucky, only colic prone...and hasn't shown any age signs really till now.thought we were getting there then this morning, she has a a double cloudy white dot on the front almost centre of her left eye..I used to be able to see a feint cauliflower shape deep inside, but always coloured..this is sudden.
She looks to be normal in vision, isn't spooky..I'm not here for diagnosing, more your thoughts & experiences please. The vet gave me bad advice during her colic as he was in a rush as it was his weekend away & he wanted to get off camping for the weekend before the friday traffic started-you always listen to your vet (pfft) so when he told me to keep feeding her feed & hay & chuck her straight out WITH SPASMODIC colic, I took his advice, because he was the vet and i'd asked for his professional opinion on managing her on this occasion...needless to say it felt wrong & that was a horrible saga-the second vet was shocked but non committal..so i went with advice which worked from a third vet from a different practice. She had been made to suffer when it was totally unnecessary..she fought through that I'm relieved to say although it took a while to get her back to normal & feeling herself..not to mention my nerves!
My reason for telling you all this, is I would like to have some experiences from people who have lived with similar eye conditions so i don't get fobbed off or misled.
Jessie means the world to me & I want to do as much for her as i can-this i feel comes easier with experience of a particular situation, not just from a vets opinion-afterall they've proved how consistently that can & do get it wrong! Any other snippets you want to throw in about veterans relating to her other recent issues, I'm very happy to read...just be nice!;-)
She is 27 TB mare who I've owned & cherished since she was 7
