Took Bud to his 3rd show yesterday, got up the yard in the morning, beautiful sunshine not a cloud in sight.
Box arrived to take 2 of us to the show, got all sorted to enter the 1st class (best turned out) and the heavens opened and stayed open
friend got placed 5th and we left there and went to see if we could pull our dressage times earlier as would otherwise have clashed with another showing class.
Now I think Bud must have been revising 2 different tests to me the night before as went in to do P7 so far so good, asked for canter and someone on my sheet in invisible writing must be the cue for bronc between X and A
and then do a fab canter half pass around to H at which point he decided to leave the arena, at this point i'm growling he'll be pedigree chum if he continues, he says OK MUM and behaves up until our next canter between X and C and does the same again (judges comments...horse rather tense and not listening to his rider) ha ha. Finished the test, apologised to the judge and left the arena and went straight in to do P18, once again went in well and get to the canter and ohhhh lets bronc again, I was not amused, we've practiced this test at home and hes ridden it beautifully
ahhh well..... finished the test and left the arena again, another lady said to me you did well to stay on and rode it well....my comments were not quite as well put...ie, that was crap,
Friend went much much better and rode 2 lovely tests.
Went back down to the main showing area, had to wait for ages before our next class, in the meantime the local hunt went into the main ring to do a display, friend and I weren't paying attention when they left the ring and here we were surrounded by 2 huntsmen and about 20 hounds, we looked at each other as both horses haven't hunted and were gearing up ready for the explosion, both horses looked and you could feel them thinking "oh yeah only dogs, nothing to worry about" PHEW !!!
Next class, ridden horse.....walked/trotted and cantered (sorry erratic canter round) judge loved Bud (pleased someone does) and we got pulled in 2nd, friend pulled in 3rd, both of us welled up. Did the lap of honour and a spectator put up her umbrella....Bud is convinced that they are people eating things and snorted rather loudly and went sideways at a great rate of knots
(oh forgot to mention at this point its still raining)!!!
Next class, lightweight/small hunter class, by this time I'd had enough and so had Bud, got pulled in 4th.
Was absolutely ecstatic with him, for the amount of time that I've owned him, he went really well, even with his messed up dressage which still resulted in not too bad % P7 53.55% and P18 46.66%
The best bit was the hack home, neither friend or I have hacked out together since we attempted in January and both horses got spooked and we had an accident by tipping up. So was a major achievement, not only to get to the show, persevere with the weather, get placed and have a superb hack home.
A very pleased Fee even if we did get drenched too many times was a fab day out
Have also discovered Bud does not like shetlands, he saw a few yesterday, he grew about another hand, eyes out on bean stalks, snorting and going sideways never taking his eyes off them, absolutely fascinated.
*Mental note for next year, don't use as much canter coat shine and remember NOT to clean the saddle quite as well!! With all the rain, by the end of the day, I just couldn't sit into it and ride through canter properly which resulted in a very messy riding effect!!*
