Hi does anyone else put Fabric Softner in the water before washing down their horses??????

I met a couple in france who put a tiny amout in then wash their horses down...............their coats are amazing and soft and shinny

Wouldn't do it myself! The fragrance in it gives me excema so I can't think it would be all that great for my mares skin. For my final rinse I put a tiny bit of vineger and veg oil in the water, aswell as a couple of drops of lavender or teatree oil if I have some handy. Also perfect for hot clothing after clipping. Gives me a gleaming and soft grey horse! The oil also helps the dirt slip off a little better when I groom her.

I wouldn't either, I don't even put it washing machine when doing their boots and rugs ect and onlty use non bio washing powder.

My OH works in the research department of the company that makes most of the well known brands of fabric condirioner and also shampoos and hair conditioners. He says there isn't a lot of difference in the formulation of fabric/hair conditioners mainly just the fragrances used.
So maybe a sensitive skin/baby hair conditioner would be better - but personally I probably wouldn't use either on my horse.
