Currently reading a post about a horse who has been unhappy in a treed saddle, bucking, grinding teeth and generally showing signs of discomfort. Owner wondering if a TCS will be the answer. Very few people seem to be suggesting a vet workup, instead there seems to be loads of ‘experts’ diagnosing ulcers, PSSM, you name it. Urgh. Pointless post but honestly 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

I don't comment on group posts on Facebook but sometimes it's handy to have thing you can suggest to the vet that you were worried about, not every vet will think of every eventuality.

Collaboration and knowledge sharing is awesome. Love diversity of approach, opinions, recommendations etc that are on this forum.

However, Facebook always leaves me wondering if I live in a bubble (hubby thinks I do) as I am constantly amazed at the lack of critical thinking. The comments are one dimensional.

There's a lot of questionable stuff on that page, I try to not look when it pops up. Someone posted a 'Yay look how amazing' type post the other week and it was of the most obese horses I have ever seen - I'm not kidding, the poor thing's belly was about 2ft from the floor, could barely walk for being so fat. Apparently I was the only one who thought it warranted a welfare intervention...

Common sense needs to be renamed rare sense in my opinion.

The one that gets me is people saying that hay soaking water is sewage. "You wouldn't feed your horse sewage would you"....."it's as bad as sewage"....if you soak it for more than an hour it's like soaking your hay in sewage". I have to tear myself away every time.

It's only like sewage in that it's full of nutrients....the way people talk I think they're convinced that it's essentially as bad as the raw contents of a Portaloo.

Oh and the other one is all the (mostly American) saddle posts looking for massive saddles.

"Wanting to try English riding, I'm chunky so I need an 18" hunter saddle for my 15.1 paint horse, should I buy a Bates?"

ETA I'm going to go and listen to some calming music now
