One of my friend's ponies has recently got stuck in the boundary fence. His legs are marked but I can sort that. He has been jabbed with anti-biotics and cleaned up. He is now stabled (and not happy about it!) so we can keep an eye on him. The problem is that he has trauma to his nostrils and the fleshy part of his upper lip/lower face. His nostrils and the lower part of his face is swollen, it doesn't look like wire marks but more like a dog has got hold of him and ripped his top lip but I can't prove anything.
Considering this colt has had little handling and is 2 years old he has been quite amenable if a little frightened bless him. He is receiving anti-inflammatories to try and ease the swelling and help him with the pain. He is eating softened feed but won't touch hay so I think he's still feeling very sore. My reason for posting is that I'm looking for a suitable cream/lotion/potion that I can put on his nose to try and stop it going dry and cracking and also help to heal it with as little scarring as possible. If anyone has used anything that they have found particularly useful, please feel free to recommend to me.
Thanks

Has a vet seen this pony? It is difficult to say what you need to do for the facial wounds without seeing them, and if it is a tear it may be that it would benefit from being stitched. Most wound creams are much of a muchness and no substitute for appropriate wound management, so if you are in doubt get the vet out.

future sport horse had a horrific injury to one of thier foals this year and it healed at a supernatural rate with something called 'botanica' I think they have a facebook page, if not Im sure future sport horses won't mind you contacting them for info.
