:D anyone else having to cover up pink noses ? And having to put fly repellent round (not on) dangly bits to stop the damned flies......

Talking of flies, we seem to have a massive amount - I thought the hard winter would sort them, but they seem to be worse than I remember  sm x

We have to put suncream on Bella, she has factor 50 . She doesn't like it going on though, do you have any suggestions as to how we can get it on her without her backing up into her stable like she keeps doing?
Thanks

My boy is not too keen either tbh.. I try and do it while he's eating a juicy carrot so he's preoccupied, if that's any help.

I use sudocreme instead of sunscreen, I found sunscreen wiped off too easily. SUdocreme is nice and thick so tends to stay place better. Mine used to hate having anything applied but this year he's loving it for some reason - strange horse!

I use factor 50. The technique I have found works for this time is smear cream on one hand then offer treat and whilst he is busy smear the cream on to his nose.
I'm just wondering how long it takes for mine to cotton on lol

Hi,
I have to use suncream on my horses due to pink noses...I tried suncream but found it came off too quick and especially after my Clydesdale learnt if he rubbed his nose on the grass or his field friends bum it would come off!!!

So i bought the sun sticks. They are meant for kids so they are high factors (30, 50+) they are thicker than suncream (more waxy) and easy to apply as a quick wipe with the stick goes a long way and they are waterproof so won't come off as soon as they have a drink.

You can get them in white/clear but just for a laugh i get the coloured ones!! I have a green one, pink and a blue one!!! Not only do i get a giggle in the morning it's also really handy to see if i have missed any bits. :D

My field is next to the hacking track in the fields and people hacking in the afternoon have commented that my horse has a blue nose, so at least i know they last into the afternoon!!!

They are also quite cheap compared to suncream, normally about £1.99. They have them in supermarkets but i buy them off Ebay...cheap as chips and no more peeling or sore noses ::)

long fly mask, suncream too much bother and never lasted as grass is so short nose on ground constantly! much easier and saves money :D

the leovet suncream is brill - doesnt come off and is waterproof- both mine have pink noses with very little shade in the field and have never burnt.

Yep lots of factor 50 suncream. But at the mo im bringng him in through the day as its so hot and the files are worse than i ever remember. Poor man cant wait to see me in the morning to come in away from them bloody things

Yep, factor 50 on my boy, it' the kid on that's waterproof so hopefully the rubbing on grass etc. doesn't remove it. He's funny when I rst try to put it on, but when he realises I'm not doing anything horrible to him, he'll happily stand whilst I rub it in. He does this each time, silly horse!!

Loving the idea of the sun block sticks. Have you got a link for where you get them, Sedgemoor?

My welshie got his first lot of sun cream for the year today - he was not impressed! Promptly smeared a load on my dad's t-shirt (so dad also not impressed!) but plenty stayed on so that's good :D
Lucky Dan doesn't need it. I let him have a sniff and he glared at me like it might poison him :o

Hi, try Ebay. I just typed in sun stick and it came up with loads item35a0692e2a&autoredirect=off&sflag=1

Also try Boots but I find Ebay cheaper!!!!

Sometimes supermarkets have deals on so I get my holiday cream at the same time as my sun stick for the boys!!!!

Monty has factor 50 childrens suncream on his nose, doesn't mind me putting it on, he isn't keen on fly spray round his man parts though. The other two don't need suncream and don't mind fly spray.
