Gutted. Managed to jack-knife the trailer in the reversing exercise which I've never done in my life ever ever. Practised the exercise 5 times perfect every time before we went this morning. Cant believe i did it. That upset me so much that I managed to get 2 serious faults on the drive as well, so failed in 3 separate ways - well, if you're gonna fail might as well do it properly. So annoyed with myself. Never failed anything before.

Don't worry about it, I failed 3 times! Once because I didn't use an optional bus lane

By the time I did my last one I was so relaxed the examiner couldn't believe I had taken that long to pass. It was nerves that was my big problem.
Good luck, it will get better!

Oh, bad luck!! Are you going to re-take again soon?
I've got my med. for my HGV tomorrow, and i'm worried i'm going to fail that, as i'm sure my eye sight isn't what it should be

I had my med the other day and its got to be the most ridiculous test ever - even my doctor kept on barking on about how out of date it was. You would literally have to be blind to fail on eye sight - the smallest letters that you need to read are HUGE!!!

Star - good luck with the next test... perhaps you practised those reversing things too much and made them in to a bit of an issue? I dont know - just hate the thought of doing a driving test again... got my HGV to look forward to

Star, I failed my HGV the first time (the only thing I have ever failed, so know how you feel) but I did the second one the week after and passed... I admit I was pretty nervous for the second one, but I also sort of knew the script too

Poor you!
Fingers crossed you pass it next week.
Perhaps is is character building to fail very occasionally (steps back smartly so star can't hit me).
Is a re-test expensive?

MdeM - you do worry me!

If you think your eyesight isn't up to passing an LGV medical - then it isn't up to DRIVING!!!!!

Agreed, there are no requirements to have your eyes tested once you have passed your test..... but if you have noticed, then why haven't you got them checked?!

Plus - it will improve you seeing a stride XC if you have vision corrected (contact lenses or glasses) aka Andrew Nicolson!

Sorry to hear you failed.

When i did mine my instructor told me that if you think it is going to jackknife you can pull forward slightly to straighten it out to a point that it is recoverable.

Providing you still show a level of competance that is sufficient to pass making the odd mistake here and there isnt the end of the world.

oh and little tip is to set markers on the back window and trailer so you know that when they line up you go ful lock the other way it will recover

Well, to pass a car test you have to read a number plate at XX amount of yards?? and i can and did do that easily... It's more that i heard it was alot harder for the HGV?? But as someone has just posted above, it doesn't sound like it's much different...
Anyway, 9yrs of car driving, no points, no claims, and no crashes, i can see enough to drive safely

As i said, i was just worried that you'd have to read the bottom line from miles away or something?

And, I did exactly the same thing as you, jackknifing when i'd never, ever done it before in my life.

Keep at it and you'll be fine next time.

Seriously, now you've done it once you know what is expected of you now

Boooo..... I know its rubbish but at least you know what is expected now and I'm sure you'll be fine next time. Here's hoping you can get another date soon and get it done and out the way, then the stressaging can commence...!

Deffo think you need an Xc session to make you feel better now...

have rebooked for next thursday morning at 8am!

maybe they cant take me as far at 8am coz it will be soooo busy in guildford at that time. had to borrow another £200 from my friend to do it though - i'm gonna be skint forever! i've got 2weeks off from next friday so i better pass this time as i have lots planned including XC schooling at tweseldown with scarlett, hacking at frensham with MQ, hiring out merrist wood to get silly pony used to indoor schools, extra lessons with my dressage trainer and much more!

Troggy - failing for not using an optional bus lane - guess i was lucky there then. there's one that says not to be used by cars between 7 and 10am and by the time i'd read the sign and looked at the clock i'd already aimed for the other lane - it was 10.02am and i think he obviously let me off for that one. v harsh to fail for just that - it's hardly dangerous is it!

and ChunkyTim yes, i do know that you can pull forward if it looks like it's jack-knifing, but i was so busy watching that poxy cone on my RHS that i forgot to watch what the trailer was doing  by then it was too late and the examiner had stopped me. got it in the bay first time no probs. did the braking and uncoupling/coupling up no probs. my 2 serious faults were in the 1st 5mins of the road drive - only got a few minors for the rest of it so i know i can do it if i control my nerves. would help if stupid examiner gave me a bit more notice which direction we were going in - he was rather slow and didn't give me much time to think.

I failed mine first time too.

It's so hard learning to drive properly again! Before I did the test I thought it was going to be straight forward and over in 15mins, little did I know... Thank God I went and had a days lesson before the test to let me know what I was in for. I would've had the shock of my life!

I remember the second time when I did the reversing I could hardly keep my foot on the pedal because my leg was shaking so much with nerves!

Fingers crossed for you. Take a deep breath and take your time.
