Hi, just thinking about replacing my very old and much loved Fal Bulldog rug which, although still being used as stable rug, is getting a bit past it (had it for 7 yrs). Have read a few reports that the Fal's aren't the same as in the past - are they still as generous and quality as good? Anyone out there bought one recently? If so, what's your view.
Thanks
:)

The old fals are the best and they were made in the uk. Personally I didn't find the newer ones very good in fit and quality I'm afraid. Luckily for me I bought a load of the old ones when the factory were selling off old stock a few years ago now. I would buy a good second hand one made in the uk in preference to the new ones.

I love FAL rugs have a couple of Vikings and Bulldogs from when they were made in the UK. They don't move and still look excellent, never rub or slip. I also have some second hand ones that I may sell, PM if interested.

I have heard the newer FALs are not so good but very happy with the older ones I have.

I just bought a Chieftain (6ft9in) and it is very generous! My boy had two bulldogs before but outgrew them. Only got the chieftain this week so can't comment on the quality in terms of wearability, but it feels like a good quality rug, the fittings and materials seem robust. I'll be looking to get a bulldog when my current heavier rugs need replacing - hairy fat horse means I don't get much use out of anything with more than 100g filling!

I gave a friend my bulldog pros when my horse grew out of them and she still uses them now - these rugs are 12 years old now and still going strong. They are as good as new after each clean and never seem to need repairing (careful horse or good rugs?!). I hope my chieftain lasts half this long! Perhaps new fals aren't quite the same quality as fals used to be, but they are still much better than 99% of other rugs on the market.

I have two Fal Bulldog rugs, one medium and one heavy weight. Had them about 7 years and they still look good. Not using them this year as I have bought the amigo bravo 12 and this seems to fit my mare better, the neck goes right to her ears.
