Just wondering what people think of these rugs? My rugged chap has gone up a size and i am having to replace (slowly) all his rugs. I am looking for a more robust rug which is going to last more than a couple of years. I have bought Shires in lighter weights for him but I don't think the quality is as good anymore. I don't like Premier Equine rugs and I know a few people who have had problems with them leaking etc.

I came across Fal Pro Rugs at Your Horse Live and thought they looked quite good but was after feedback before spending out on one. Thanks

I really like Fal rugs but only have older ones. I believe they used to be made in the UK but have now switched abroad and the quality has suffered. They're particularly good for chunky monkeys with big shoulders.

I know some don't like PE rugs but I really rate them. Between us on the yard we must have about 12 PE rugs on various horses and no leaks at all. I find they're the only ones with neck covers that actually cover all the neck and deep enough bodies for the two big boys. When I had to put an emergency rug on one of mine the other day (he'd managed to lose his other one as I'd not done the fillet string up. Oops! ) I put the FAL on him and realised how short the neck is on them. It's 12 years old (and still going strong, which is good) so not sure if the design has changed/ improved since then.

I have one of the new fal pro stable rugs, I really rate it! There super deep compared to some of the others and very generous on sizing. I'm hoping to swap all my current PE rugs to Fal.

I have a Fal Pro turnout for my german WB. It fits him well as he is deep bellied and some other makes look a bit like mini skirts on him. However he does have an all singing all dancing Horseware Rambo HW for colder weather.

i have the old Fal Pro rugs, some are about 18 years old and in perfect condition. they fit beautifully and are lovely and deep. Still totally waterproof and warm. I have the Vikings, and the Bulldogs. heavy medium and light weight. I always look on ebay for second hand ones.

Had an absolutely brilliant one for a pony that lasted over 10 years (pony passed away in Feb :( ), I also have a turnout for my cob that is good however she has recently destroyed a lightweight one but I think she got it hooked under a bit of tree so generally I like them as well as Horsewear and they usually last well.
As my horses seem to fit Horsewear and Fal, I have been a bit wary of trying Premier Equine though they look decent rugs.

Old ones were brilliant, I have four 20yr old Fals still going strong. Quality went downhill went they switched manufacturers which must be about 10yrs ago now. I bought a couple of the 'newer' versions but the materials nowhere near as good so went off them. Haven't bought one recently though so not sure how good they are now.

I always use falpro and swear by them, bought a second hand one about 20years ago and its still going strong, I find them a bit small to size so go up a size, i.e if you normally have 6'3 go to 6'6, the hoods are slightly smaller but are a nice snug fit. I have two Viking, a bulldog, and the silver interactive lining on another one, they are more expensive but grab a bargain in the sales or on ebay. I have tried others and been disappointed with amigo and shires so always go back to falpro.

He used to wear 6'3 but he went through a stage in the summer wrecking them - torn the shoulder and up towards the neck (No shoulder dart though!) in one, split his fly rug (nothing to catch on) and I have just put his heavier turnout on and when his head goes down to eat, it pulls up his bum a good 3 - 4 inches. He's work that rug every winter since I have had him (7 1/2 years) and this year it just doesn't fit any more.

I don't mind paying more for a rug if it lasts like his heavier turnout as then they're worth the money.
