Fallen out of love with my x-trail

Loved my x-trail but getting a bit fed up now with things going wrong with it , my neighbours must think i'm having an affair with my mechanic his van is here at least once a month .
latest drama is it now needs a dual mass flywheel and clutch costing over a grand , engine been shaking in idle for a while but clutch is now sticking , hubby says not worth spending that amount on it [ is 05 plate done over one hundred thousand miles ]
Hubby has no need for a towing vehicle was bullied into one by my need to tow pony and daughter to events , only way we could afford a 4x4 was to get one with high mileage . No point part exchanging it as would be buying like for like ,
pointless post just fed up , i know stuff goes wrong with car's but what we have paid out on this one we could of bought a much newer model !

Send it to the nearest car auction.
You need not disclose whats wrong with it as it can be sold as seen and indeed buyers will expect to repair stuff. You should still get a few grand for it to buy something else.

Sorry about your problems with it, we have one also and it had a few problems not long after we got it. Hubby not impressed as was used to reliable hondas. Auction sounds like good advice

They aren't great towers and if you are towing near the maximum all the time you are going to get problems. This is exactly why I bought a grand cherokee (expensive to run but a solid tower).

You might struggle a bit if looking for 4X4s for B (no B+E) licence towing so here are some examples with the max trailer MAM allowed for B licence towing underneath each:-


Toyota Rav 4 (4X4) with these specifications/dimensions
Unladen/kerb = 1425
GVW = 1785
Max towing weight = 1500
Max trailer plated MAM = 1425 kgs


Nissan X trail (4X4) with these specifications/dimensions
Unladen/kerb = 1515
GVW = 2050
Towing = 2000
Max trailer plated MAM = 1450 kgs

Kia Sportage (AWD) with these specifications/dimensions
Unladen/kerb = 1678
GVW = 2140
Towing = 1600
Max trailer plated MAM = 1360 kgs

FREELANDER 1 (2001 - 2005)
Unladen/kerb = 1500
GVW = 2040
Towing = 1800
Max trailer plated MAM = 1460 kgs

SUBARU FORRESTER (4X4)
Unladen/kerb = 1465 minimum
GVW = 2050 maximum
Towing = 2000
Max trailer plated MAM = 1450 kgs

Skoda Yeti (4X4) with these specifications/dimensions
Kerb = 1530
GVW = 2070
