So it is finally happening I am falling in love with Bert and we are building up a bond. After loosing Homey in 2022 I thought I would never be happy again but little Bert is bringing joy into my life.

I still miss Homey and chat to him and tell him that I love him and always will but I now hug and cuddle Bert and he is becoming affectionate.

The only problem now is that I don't want to leave Bert for long and my parents are going through a difficult time and understandably my sister and BIL who are having the strain of dealing with mum want me back in Norfolk more. If I didn't have Bert I would probably be in Norfolk every weekend and taking time off to be there in the week combined with wfh. Mum became unwell the day after I bought Bert on 7 August and has become mentally unstable as well as physically unwell.

I did want to remain a bit more detached from Bert so that I didn't feel like I did with Homey to make it easier with family and work commitments but opps now I love Bert.

He's a very smart pony!
After losing a much-loved animal it can be difficult to 'allow' yourself to love another; it can feel as if you're being disloyal to the memory of your lost friend somehow
I am so pleased that Bert has worked his way into your heart xx

Lovely news that you are falling for Bert.

The photo of your BIL with him made me smile too.

Do I remember Bert had some soundness issues a while ago? If so glad that seems to behind you too.

I know a lot of people on the forum and in real life thought I would never find a pony or was being too fussy but I am so glad I waited till I found him. He really is just right the balance of being fairly sensible but with a bit of spirit and intelligence about him.

He is quite funny sometimes such as he is very particular about brushes and the fancy expensive ones I got for Homey he doesn't like being brushed with he likes the cheap plastic magic brush.

Yes he was lame and vet had been out a few times and been under review but seems completely better now and moving really well. My instructor and YO are saying he looks superb and I am riding him nicely.

Vet was fairly confident that he had slipped in field or had a bad stifle lock and whatever it was minor as he had gone from 6/10 lame to 1/10 lame after 5 days box rest and then after 5 days field rest was sound and fingers crossed been ok as he has been bought back into work gradually and getting stronger and moving well now.

Had a great lesson on Bert today we are prepping to jump so we did a small course of poles in walk with all the scary fillers with just a small gap that we walk through between the filers over a pole.

He was excellent and he got quite excited. He reminds me of Homey in that respect Homey loved doing pole clinics and he used to get really whizzy when the poles came out.

We also practiced light seat in trot and transitions and leg positions. I normally have a lesson on Sat for half an hour and my instructor is very good at making the lessons interesting and fun for us.
