have had my horse about 5 years now, and about once a year she falls on the road on her knees. Never done any very series damage, been lame once and 1 weeks box rest, and other than that just grazes. Just brought her some knee boots too, but does anyone have any experience of their horses doing this? its only ever on the road, never when being schooled. any ideas why it may be happening?
thanks

I would be interested in any answers you might have, my grand daughters pony fell last week, just a one off I hope. She just seemed to fold up onto her knees, only doing a slow walk. She got up straight away and no ill effects at all. Her knees weren't hurt, not even grazed. It just took us by surprise.

Do you make a point of having road nails put in the shoes to help with grip? If it is happening only once in a blue moon I would say it's a rider problem, rather than horse related.

There's your answer! Let your horse slop along, it's likely to fall over. Ride it properly and it won't!
