(I have already googled this but no joy) is there such a thing as a false clip-in hair bun ? All I can find online is fashion messy buns, and doughnut things which I assume beef up a small bun perhaps for thin hair. I have a short bob which only makes the teeniest little pony tail which looks so silly so I wondered for competing whether there is such a thing as an entire clip in bun ?

I used to have a short boy pixie cut, but wanted to look more feminine in a riding hat. I didn’t have enough hair for the clip buns to stay clipped to and they would just fall/ slip out, so I sewed a fake bun onto a piece of elastic to create a headband. I would then put a hairnet over the top of everything before putting my hat on. Headband piece sat under my hat so you couldn’t see it (brown hair and I used brown soft baby elastic for the headband).

How odd. I have a real bun held by hair pins and I have some bun nets bought when I assumed I would ride with my hair in a bun. In fact they are unused. I plait my long hair to ride, as does young YM.
I dont compete and from the start thought that regulations on what women should wear when competing were ludicrous. Same goes for showing.

One reason I dont go to the yard with my hair in a bun is that traditional hair pins are liable to fall out and I dont want to risk one falling into the straw or hay on the stable floor.

Gosh yes. I wore one a few times. Can’t remember where I got it from. Remember someone helping pin it on and I think a whole can of hairspray was involved. When I took my hat off and the bun off my hair basically was solid. I never mastered the art of the elastic headband for it so abandoned it.

I did exactly this when I did side saddle but had short hair. I just used a cheap bun.

Like wise when I rode side saddle got my false bun via side saddle association handbook. Still got the false bun, Bowler hat and Habit must get round to selling them ( too small now!!).
