Please can you send some vibes to my parents dog.
My mum just rang there Leonburger has been in emergency vets overnight on a drip they think her kidneys are not working properly. She is only 18months old and they have had her 4months after loosing these newfy at only 6 in march due to something similar to bone cancer this is the last thing they need.
They are just seeing vet now to work out the next step.
I just feel so sorry for her she is softest thing in the world and for them

In such a young dog if kidneys are not working properly please get vets to check for anti freeze poisoning. I have seen quite a few people topping up their cars and it only takes a. Small amount to cause serious damage to a dog. All fingers crossed for you

Thanks, I will definitely get that asked about. They think her kidneys are failing but not sure why, she is having scans and tests done this morning to try and find the cause. They are hoping its kidney stones as that will be the simplist outcome but wont know till later.
Thanks all.

Huge vibes coming their way, really hope there is a positive outcome very soon...not sure where your family are located, but there have been several incidents of dogs licking/eating some type of veg oil washed up on beaches in the Southwold area, and becoming very sick very quickly...

Thanks for that although we are based as far from sea as possible being in midlands!!
Not got any news yet. She was being scanned at 2 and my dad is ringing at 4 to find out. She is still on her drip and comfortable but no change. :( just hope they get to bottom of it quickly.

Just little update. She remains on a drip has eaten a tiny amount now. Her bloods are starting to improve and she will hopefully be home tomorrow afternoon.
Vets think its a severe kidney infection but don't know if any damage has been done which will affect long term.

Unfortunately she is no longer improving all bloods have started to worsen eventhough she is on lots of meds and fluid. She has been referred from local vets to a small animal vet hospital who ironically used to be out vets anyway.
Fingers crossed the specialist there can get to bottom of it if not she will go to Liverpool.
Cant believe my poor parents are going through this again.

Just to update. She remains in the vets, they have narrowed it down to either Addisons disease or kidney disease. The first would be treated with tablets. The latter with diet change and some meds to begin with.
They will take her off the drip once they get the Addisons result later today. They don't want to take her off it until they know what they are treating. But she remains bright and bubbly.

Not an overly common problem according to vets. But it came back negative for Addisons she is back home on a renal diet and back in Tuesday to do further tests to find what kidney disease she has but it is some kind of disease. Vets are feeling positive it can be managed tho but not sure long term issues.
