A mare where I work has been down all day, and hasn't got up.

She slipped and got cast at 7 ish this morning, and despite the Animal Rescue squad and the fire service hoisting her up, her back end is very weak and near enough useless at the mo.

She seem comfortable - eating and drinking, so the vet etc decided to give her til the morning to regain some strength; we are on shifts tonight!

Can you please send lots of getting up and staying up vibes her way?
All hooves crossed for a full recovery!

Sending healing <<<<<vibes>>>>>

This is a horrid place to be. I know - I've been there, but fortunately Merlin got up, pretty much of his own accord, almost 24 hours after having gone down. The vet reckoned Merls got stuck, exhausted himself trying to get up, and decided to gather his strength while everyone around him worried themselves silly.........Gah! Blummmin 'orse!

Having said that, I hope your girl finds her feet soon with no lasting problems.

She stayed strong all night, and had plenty of rest.
More food and water this morning; we were all encouraged to see poo and pee! The vet seemed pleased with her progress as her back legs seemed much stronger and she was really trying to get up.
We had arranged for the fire service, vet and animal rescue squad to return at 3 if she still wasn't up, to try the hoist again. She was so calm throughout, bless her, no panicing or worrying.
Her pulse, respiration, hydration, temperature and gut sounds were all normal.
At 3, she was still down, and still strong and alert, sitting up and looking around.
So, we hoisted her up, and three legs looked good, but her near hind couldn't support her and she couldn't even control its movement. We tried several times, before we decided that she had had enough.
Goodbye Cheyanne - you were a fantastic, spirited mare - we all love you very much. XXX

Thanks for all your thoughts everyone. Better luck next time xxx

Oh I didn't see your first post and just read through this now, I'm so sorry she didn't make it. RIP Cheyanne

:( Oh, misterjay! I'm so very sorry things didn't work out. I was really hoping for a good outcome for this mare, but clearly it wasn't meant to be. :(

Sending some (((((hugs)))) - daresay you could use a few.

RIP, Cheyanne.
