I have decided to take my delightful daughter, and her little ginger Shetland to a show on Sunday.

As the most uncreative mother ever, I'm looking for ideas for a fancy dress class.
Please help!
Many Thankies

Saw a small ginger shettie in fancy dress this sunday - Pony went as a fairy - it had wings and a skirt on ( bright pink) and ribbons in mane- small girl with it also dressed as a fairy --looked fantastic!! Dont know if it won, but crowd loved it!! I have promised to take my daughter in fancy dress for last show of season ...- she wants to go as Barbie - Magic of Pegasus- although how I'm supposed to transform a red/white shettie into pegasus... god only knows!! Can only think of making horn out of cardboard tube and fastening it to shettie somehow

Black stripes for a tigger and child as piglet or Pooh?
I saw at PUK years ago pony dressed as lion with kids as Simba and Nala and a Zazzu stuffed bird it was an absolutely brilliant costume.

Ooh I like the idea of a lion - shettie is half way there already!!

How about Gingerbread men?

ummmm.... Monkey business?

Ooh dead easy, shetland pony grand national!! A numnah with a number on it and I'm sure you could pick up ingredients for the jockey's racing colours in a charity shop!!

Ginger Ninja??? attach a headband around pony's browband/throatlatch, and matching sweat bands on all 4 legs, with child dressed in begged/borrowed or stolen karate suit or failing that cheap plain white or black PJs or dressing gown from Primark??

ETA if you're not a art and crafty type, a pair of dressmaking scissors (tesco, anywhere for £3+), a charity shop or 2 and a pot of copydex are your best friends in the world!!

Have Pmed you...

other ideas... Lion, witch and wardrobe, with Ginger shetland as Lion (Backcomb his mane and use LOADS of brylcream) bandage his tail right down to the bottom and just backcomb a little at the end. Dress daughter as a Witch (binbag over the body with head and armholes, make a hat out of a cone of black card) and some facepaint.
And you go as the wardrobe

Easiest of all - go as a Thelwell cartoon. Put daughter's hair in big side plaits with ribbons, (we used bits of wire coathangars to make plaits bend upwards), paint freckles on face, jacket with large L plate sign on back, maybe pad out jods to look like old fashioned ones, tie a carrot on a stick and get daughter to hold it out (maybe cardboard one though as you have the genuine article!) and then bits of hay sticking out of mane and tail of pony. But give the judge a clue by writing Thelwell somewhere in case he/she is a bit slow!
