My sister may do fancy dress on a chestnut pony at our riding school. He would be a Christmas tree and she would be the Angel on top. I was thinking of a green blanket over the saddle with loads of baubles attached, green tinsel wrapped round the bridle and reins ...
Is this a good idea? Any better ones? The cheaper the better!

If you have an exercise sheet you can use as a pattern that helps - otherwise the cheapest single sheet you can get from Tescos or similar with the hold cut in the middle for the saddle - or the girth if you put the saddle on top. Best not to put a child on top of a sheet over the saddle in case pony spooks! The decorate the sheet with swags of cheap tinsel (It is not going to be re-usable!) and plastic balls or whatever. You can wrap tinsel around her boots - and pony's boots if he is wearing them - as well. Tinsel on her hat as well.

Make sure pony is OK with all this. Some are great and some less so! None of your hard work will be any good if pony won't let her near him!

We have tinsel and fairy lights to wrap around the reins and noseband, we have a loomband bracelet to go round the browband, we have Suva mane to go in the mane or tail,
We will put a blanket over the saddle with baubles and tinsel ....

The pony is a Christmas tree and the rider is the Angel on the top , and the leader is Santa's helper.
Our rocking horse has been a useful model!!!
Any other suggestions?

The blanket DID originally go around the front of the pony too - she won 1st place :) We used those little flashy lights that fasten with magnets all over him. They didn't stay on very well, we kept finding them in the school for ages afterwards ;)
