Have gorgeous ISH 4 years (backed in May). He is hacking (alone and company), won his first dressage, been XC schooling and was fantastic, steps, ditches and a slide - never stops, brave and forward. Did a local WH class, jumped clear, placed third (his first show). Completely genuine, lovely lovely temperament. I have no doubt he would be an fantastic hunter. He is big, 16.2-3Hh full up and clearly growing. Firstly, what do you think he is worth, and any ideas for a trainer SJ and XC in West Mids/Staffs area? This horse wasn't cheap but would appreciate your initial thoughts on a fab trainer and his value now. He is not insured for loss of use as yet, is it worth doing??

I don't think I want to know how much a horse like this is worth as I can't afford to insure any of ours..

Ours sounds similar, came 6th first OE, is well behaved most of the time now and was WH Champion at his first show.. Come on folks, scare me.. (Jacques who hopefully is no longer a bucking machine..)

Kerilli I have read your posts, and tbh respect your opinion. I am fairly new to this area and my failing is showjumping! Poor pony will stand no chance left to my devices (although don't doubt he will try and help me!) I don't mind travelling to someone good but it has to be worth it. I have had a break from eventing (previously up to intermediate) and want to give this one every chance. I have no probs with travelling to someone worthwhile.

Personally I think 4 year olds are so difficult to value, if I were forced to sell Herbie I'd hope to get at least £6k for him, but in all honesty as I don't have to sell him I'd not take £15k if it was offered as I'm confindent he will be a perfect horse for me and be a Dressage star, combined with his attitide and temperament I could not go out and buy that. IMO

Hmmm haven't insured him loss of use as can barely afford what i am paying at the moment! Would you send a horse like this to a pro to give him a chance with a fool like me??! (altho HH reading your posts you don't need to - read your blogs regularly!). He has proper quality - will take some pics and post them (have had him 4 months not managed to take pics yet!!) x

Don't know what he's worth but you could try Emily Gilruth who's based at Malpas. She has a very good record with youngsters and superb vacilities too. Her husband is on our committee so I can either get her number from him or give him your number for them to ring you if you want. (meeting is tomorrow night!)

EJ, if you want a very good sj trainer, there's a lady who lives near the A5 not far from Weston Park who i used to go to. she was at Paul Schockemohle's for a good while, she doesn't ride much now but she's seriously seriously good. if you PM me, i can give you her number.
if not, she knows all the SJ boys and could prob suggest someone very close to you.
i find some SJers don't train eventers quite right, but it's hard to put my finger on why tbh.
