can anyone help me?

my local farmer (has land just round the corner from me) is a bit of marmite person - people like him or hate himm cant work out why really. I get on with him very well, always waves when he drives past, always has time for a chat and is more than willing to come and help on my field if I need anything - use of his tractor.

Last year I popped in a few times when i saw him at his barn to see if he could help take some haylage off the stack and down the field for my horses - of course he finished what he did and came round. Well i say finish off, he seems to take less than 2 mins before hes round so i think he drops everything.

I offered to pay him but he said no. So this happened a few times (maybe 6 max), refused payment.

I realised this morning that the girls had decided to eat most of their haylage last night so I asked mum, whilst I was at work, if she could pop round and ask him to come round and get some hay out as we would find it hard to roll the hay out by hand with the amount of snow wever had.
So she went round, he said no probs but after hed taken his dogs for a walk. 2 mins later hes round with his tractor, takes 3 round bales of hay into the top of my summer field and then gets 1 more out and puts it outside my stables. He asked my mum what she was doing with the hay rings weve got, so she replied that when I got back from work wed roll them down. Next minute hes back off down the field with the rings on the tractor

I really want to get him something to say thank you but really havent got a clue as to what to get him.
Was thinking whiskey but dont know if he drinks that.
I know he drinks as he mentions going to the local pub for a drink.
hes mid/late 30's at a guess.

any ideas?

Whisky is a tricky one cos he might hate it, I do.... however having said that I havent got any better ideas. Do you know anybody he drinks with or could you pop into the pub and ask what he likes? If he is a regular they will probably know

Yeah its difficult as i know my OH doesnt drink the stuff but my dad does.
I had thought about popping round to his hourse when hes out to see if his mum could give me any ideas but its a matter of catchin him out.
I dont know anyone in the local pub (only moved to the village this Easter but had the horses there just over a year) maybe I should get visiting it lol

DR he really is a gem, fantastic guy, one in a million.

morgans spiced rum? never heard of that, will have to keep an eye out to see if i can see any of that

I am sure whisky will be ok. It is the thought that counts after all.And if he doesnt drink it ,I,m sure he has friends who will.He sounds a fantastic neighbour.

so do we think its definitely best to give alcohol then?
ill have to find a nice bottle for him.
he really is a really great neighbour to have around, even came round to warn me that hed just had his trailer stolen so to keep an eye on my 2. he told me not to bother buying a tractor cos hed do the work that I needed

lol lindsayH, dont think my OH would think thats a great idea lol you can have him if you want? as long as he still helps me out

honestly i dont know why hes still single?

Doesnt have to be alcohol. As I said its the thought that counts and if you think of somthing else that is really him,go for that.Sometimes I think buying a bottle of somthing is a bit of a cop out as it is so easy. How about a nice warm hat.

No question - whisky! If it weren't for the farmer next door we'd have been stranded since 22nd Dec. We have over 3 feet of snow and council do nothing up here on the roads. They've dragged us up the hill more times than I can remember!! Anyway - they'd never take money but my god they like a dram! Everyone here pays them in Whisky. Make it a good single malt, something like Macallan which you can get in supermarket.

put it this way, hes not fell and hit every branch on the way down the ugly tree lol. hes nice looking

shame you are a bit of a dsitance away - unless you fancy moving up north

JD, mmm now ive just remember that that is the only whisky I can drink but only with coke lol

If he's got sheep why not see if you can find a bottle of Sheep Dip Whisky. Its very nice (speaking from experience - but not sure if you can still get it. Looks as if you have put a bit of thought in then. If not get a nice special malt. Or take him out for a meal to the local pub- you can get to meet the locals as well!!

What about some boot socks? Ski socks? A hat and scarf? He will probably welcome them this weather.

BTW, just a thought, he wouldn't by any chance fancy the pants off you, would he? 30's? Single, drops everything (almost) for you ...

Right that's it, I'm off to pack!

Sorry Daisy, I'm not really helping am I? Unless I bring a really nice bottle of whiskey with me and kill two birds with one stone.
