What would I buy him? I think I would buy a bottle of Jack Daniels.

Or what about something like a homemade cake. I have a friend who helps me when my Landrover goes wrong and a chocolate cake always goes down a treat!

When my boys helped recover a young lady who'd driven into a ditch she came round a couple of nights later with a tin of homemade cookies. They were totally made up with the thought of the gift.

Yep - you win!!!!

A lush chocolate cake - any hard working farmer would love a cake. If your cooking skills are not up to it - get one from the WI market or stall (if you have one).

There's a family with a yard in the village where I keep my horses, (I've been friends with the son for some years, but have since got to know them all) who have been *amazingly* helpful to me and my mother with our horses, especially when me and my mare have been injured in the past year. I really couldn't thank them enough for what they've done.

For Christmas my mother and I gave them a home made and wrapped gift box incl: a horsey calender, a home made cake, a bottle of red, a bottle of white, some nice cheese, nice biscuits, some home made jam, home made chutney, fruit, etc. I wasn't sure what to get them so made up a collection of goodies and was really touched by their thanks, as I understand were they by the gift

Like the Port idea but how about some nice crystal glasses (or nice glasses anyway) to go with it. He sounds like an absolute diamond - to be honest, as he's such a diamond (and a bit easy on the eye too by the sounds of it he he he) I really would try and nab his mum for some suggestions. That way he'll get a gift he really appreciates that demonstrates the level of your gratitude if that makes sense.

I was going to ask if he was single....

What a lovely chap! Maybe thermal gloves or scarf instead of alcohol? A nice thank you card would probably go down well too.

Just thought - what about an M&S voucher so he can go and choose some nice food or booze (if you have one nearby!)?

Sloe gin or really nice malt whisky - if you've got a good off licence or something like majestic wine near you go and ask them what they recommend.
Farmers love both of these!

sorry havent updated this thread.

We have decided to buy him some sealskin gloves. He was complaining that his hands freeze but that the shop had sold out and didnt know where to get any from. Only problem is we havent been able to get to the shop with the weather so were off to get him some this week
