Yesterday I went out for a ride with three other people from the yard. I've been on the yard and in the area (we were on a farm right next to the yard orriginally) the longest of everyone there, so they asked to be shown a new route.
I took them right round one of the resivoirs and they really enjoyed it. One of the horses who is scared of water even ploughed right into the causeway that was about three inches covered in water, and had a drink!
We went back by a path that everyone has done before and then into the woods.
In the woods there are a few jumps (just fallen branches that people have pulled over to the side to make a mini xc course) most of them are quite small but some are a decent size.
Now, I'm a big chicken when it comes to jumping, I've had B a little over a year and I've only just started to jump him (something he loves so I'm glad I'm getting over it for his sake!) I'm happily popping 1ft6 in the school, but I've never jumped him outside (appart from ditches and that wasnt deliberate!) But I decided that it was now or never, so I got myself to the front of the ride (wanted to go first so B wasnt standing getting all excited as the others went over before he got a shot!)
The first jump is tiny, about 15" off the ground! Trotted up to it, B got quite excited stuck his head up and then we were over and cantering through the trees! Managed to pull him up and we waited for the others. I missed out the second one as it was a bit big for me at the moment!
The 3rd one was bigger than the first, maybe a foot high, but the run up was good going so we trotted and then cantered the last few strides and B jumped it nicely (with me hanging on for dear life!)
By this point the horses were all getting really excited! So two of the women decided to continue riding down the woods and onto the road and me and another girl went through the set asside. Wasnt going to canter as it was very muddy, but as soon as we hit the grass B was ready to go, so we walked a bit till it got a bit firmer then decided to go (my arms were in dangour of being pulled out anyway!) And go B did!! Now, my little man is 26 this year and 13.2hh. The other girl has a 12 year old 17.2hh TB ex point to pointer. B flew past him at a flat out gallop!! The TB caugh up in no time and they galloped side by side along the set asside. Took me longer to stop than it did the other girl tho! lol!
Turned the corner onto the track and B tried to take off again!! I wasnt having any of it tho and made him walk. A little futher down the other girl turned to me and asked if I wanted to canter again, as soon as she said it B started to trot! lol! Was like he was saying "yup, lets go, ignore mummy, she'll come along too!"
It was a great ride and the fastest B's ever gone!! He wasnt even that fast on the beach! And I'm really glad that we jumped in the woods, need to do it more often so I get confident enough to do the bigger jumps too!
