Just a short thread to post my excitement of the day- today was the first time I took lola on her first solo hack, not even anyone walking, and she was a star! With all the traffic and scary stuff, not a single spook or nap
Little bit of background, we have had lola from 4months- wild off the new forest- she was horrible, very flighty and would do anything to stop you getting near her- this carried on for about a year (nicely nicely did NOT work with her) we got her in the stable and had a friend manage to get a headcollar on her (no force used) and she hasn't looked back since. She is now a delight to handle. There has been a few setbacks on the way, but she was backed and took to it well, did a bit then had some time off, rode her again a few times, really good- then she bolted across our riding field after somthing spooked her, and deposited me through a barbed wire fence and broke me- we both lost confidence in each other, but when I was fixed I rode her and she just worried, to the point where she either couldn't move or would leap and buck and get me off, had one good ride then holiday to let her head settle- I didn't ride her at all last year, had a friend ome out and ride her who she tested, but has come out well- more holiday over the winter and she has come back better than ever, I never felt I could even get back on this pony, let alone her trust me to hack her by herself, and my confidence in her has grown, she is so much more ready for it all now, she wasn't at all rushed before, but she has almost said "I'm ready" as a rising 6yo, she is my mums pony and was only ever destined to be a happy hack, but she's doing so well, we are going to try some dressage this year!
Sorry for the long post, but I am so proud that we have come such a long way together and, despite our accident, we are moving along well, cannot wait to see what the future brings
