A small selection of the ponies i've bought FOR MEAT MONEY over the last 6 months.......

and guess what??

they have ALL been sold on to Private homes......wormed/eating hard food/and socialised.......

VINDICATED????

I think so..........

Some smart ponies there, some people do not know what they have got.. I'm off to Llanybyder end of month, got a feeling I might be bringing a couple back...

you not at Leominster tomorrow, zigzag???

No, owner changed his mind, the little grey pony has gone on a months trial to the local vet, and the coloured is going to Llanybyder..

Well done you and long may you continue, i wish i had the facilitys (sp) to do the same. I have done a few and when i,ve sold them on i have even lost money in knowing they have gone to a good home. Im no bunny hugger either and there is a place for the meat man, to do the job that irrisponsable horse owners cant do. also I dont think you have to vindicate yourself.

How about this then??...... meat money.....

There is no arguing, you are damn good at what you do! I love the first one, and the coloured cob. All nicely put together beasties.

Soots.....

you knew the OLD JM7...

and myself now...

i ADORE "ALL" my ponies...be they sell-ons or "keepers

NOTHING is treated the differently.....

I do indeed, and I think it was your eye for a horse that led you down the path you have gone down. It is a gift.

[/ QUOTE ]

i adore my "gang"...but doesn't detract form the fact that some are "crap"...i mean £2 for a small deformed shetland/welsh A/Newfie??

they come home..have a month of haylege....they're legs dont show signs of any progress.....then, afte a nice breakfast, we go off, on the lorry, which, during their time with me is part of everyday life, to the pasture in the sky....bless them all................................

I stand corrected and i admire the work that you have done, now when i have seen it with my own 2 eyes
,i could never figure out what you were doing or where you were coming from if you understand what i mean, sometimes it is difficult to figure someone out especially on a national forum,so i appologise if i have offended you in your work or profession !

It would be an ideal world we lived in where everyone could afford private cremation for their horses but we need to acknowledge that this isn't the case and if JM can offer a few weeks of comfort, care and compassion before taking them to slaughter then she is only to be applauded........do we want to live in a situation as in the States where slaughter is banned....we know what has happened there and it's up to us to make sure it doesn't happen here.

I am most likely a hypocrite as I could never personally take a horse to a slaughter house but I realise that sometimes there is no option and therefore we need people like JM to ensure that it is done compassionately

paddywhack....i have been on this forum for about oh i dont know...4 yrs..or so...

i took a sabbaticcal for a little while..

i had, what can only be described as a VERY opinionated..and sometime foul mouthed attitued to other users....

NOW...i am opinionated, but allow my animals show my true meanings/thoughts through pictures/facts..

hoping this makes some sense??

Hats off to you JM. Your horses are a credit to you, and I admire you for what you do for those who are never going to go anywhere else but around the markets. Its a job & responsibility I'd be no good at so good on you.

I wrote this in outrage at DB this morning, and then when I went to post it the thread wouldn't let me as it had gone........

So here's my opportunity to show you my support, JM07, luckily, as I have to cut and paste my long replies as my connection is so rubbish, I still have it...

Perhaps Dollybean ought to take a look at the crisis in the USA where they've closed the abbatoirs....... or even realise people like JG can do what he does because there are not enough people who will do what JM07 is prepared to.
A short journey to be slaughtered is surely preferable to weeks and months of hell starving to death? Or being bought to suffer in a holding farm waiting for a butcher to get a lorry load together to ship to Italy, as happens here in France?
Maybe you as a responsible owner would never let your horses suffer, and that is laudable. But there are far more people out there who just want rid of an animal that is lame, or that has gone 'bad' simply because their inflated opinions of their capabilities has turned a sensitive horse into a dangerous one. Read some of the fluffy forums.......one poster called a horse a serial bucker because he's bucked four times in a YEAR!
We as humans are responsible for breeding numbers of horses in excess of our needs, so we have to be responsible for the humane disposal of those animals. It is wrong that these horses and ponies even end up at sales with a value of a few quid. But that is the fault of the sellers, not the likes of JM07. ('The likes of'.....sorry, that wasn't meant to be offensive.....

)
The wastage needs addressing at root cause.....breeding will always be a numbers game, but the industries should be more responsible about disposal of the horses and ponies that can no longer be cared for. And idiotic fools who breed from unregistered and talentless animals for sentiment and then don't want the offspring should be stopped as well. But until that happens, and it'll take a lot of blue moons to do so, there will always be these poor animals needing someone to stop the pits of a life that they've ended up in.

Do you go to these sales, Dollybean.......have you any idea what the realities are?

y'know, I don't always see eye to eye with JM (well, hardly ever
blush.gif
) but just taken a backtrack and looked at the photos... and it backs what I was going to reply to the post earlier (before my internet kicked me off).

For whatever JM may or may not be on the forum.. one thing she is, and that's a horse lover, and someone who KNOWS what she is looking at. Wether that be a scruffy little sec A yearling straight off the hills that might be a show ring superstar or a negelcted cob that has a kind attitude and good conformation and would make a lovely hack.

Take a visit to any lower end horse auction and I bet many of you would be deeply shocked. Some of the animals passed through are pure crap, horses that have been bred incorrectly (sway backed, no straight legs etc) and have been passed pillar to post, horses that people point at and laugh / cry. Others have once been someone's best friend and through circumstance stand in that pen half starved and wormy.

I truly think some people live such sheltered lives, they keep their horse at top end livery yards and their contact with the horsey world comes via shows and events.

I don't think it's until you've seen a case of pure neglect / cruelty that you could understand why some people make it their mission to weed the hopeless from the 'potentials' and have the hopeless put out of their misery. If they didnt these horses would spend the next 10 or 20 years living in their own hell.

I have seen cases of pure neglect and cruelty, and hold my hat off to people like JM who have the fscility, time, patience, understanding and knowledge to help these cases either have a better life or rest in peace...
