Groomers,

Do you read trade journals/magazines ? Do you feel like they lack anything or is there anything specific you'd like to read in such a journal?

Cheers :)

Rarely.
They are usually behind the times and full of adverts.

Just out of interest, would you mind telling me which trade mags you had read (just so I can kind of guage your experience) :)

If there was a new magazine coming out, what content WOULD you want in it that would be of interest?

Pro Groomer & Groomer to Groomer & there used to be another one in the UK that lasted about a year.
I don't think I would subscribe to another attempt at a magazine. I get a lot of product info online & from shows.
Styling changes are fluid and can be seen online.
Give me a picture & a suitable coat & I can match the style or I can freestyle so what is the magazines' content?
They soon become gossip columns and "look who won this" venues.

I would just like to find a groomer who when I take my Border terrier to them doesnt either ask (after establishing that she is clipped not stripped) 'How would you like her clipped, short all over?' ummm to look like a Border Terrier?? or else doesnt ask and I mysteriously acquire something that looks exactly like a red grizzle minature Schnauzer all right angles and massive monobrow when I go to pick her up :-((((

maybe I will take them one of these mags :-)))

They are lovely! Hope the one on the right wasnt a tall grizzle border before my latest goth dog groomer got a hold of them...:-)))))

LOL, I've seen some good groomers, but none so good to turn them in to a poodle! ;) Meanwhile I'm working on turning the poodle in to a terrier.

Years ago I had someone turn up with a very scruffy, overgrown, apricot mini poodle. It had been his late mother in laws dog and he was uneasy about being seen walking it but the long hair was getting too much for him.
I had a Kerry Blue ( in show trim) which he admired and agreed didn't look poncy so I asked him to leave me to style his dog. The apricot mini poodle became a wheaten Lakeland terrier and the guy happily walked it around for the next few years.
I have also put a Kerry in a clown trim (after a vet chopped hair off both her front legs for a routine dental) Bracelets & Kerry movement are a striking combination.

s4sugar - I'm in the middle of transitioning my poodle fromm t-clip to kb....he's looking rather ducklike at the minute. Any suggestions? Beard is taking F O R E V E R to grow in.

Cayla, why don't you read any trade journals? Is it just that it's not interesting enough or another reason? :)

c'mon groomers, I know you're out there.....

I am not really sure why:o I bought all my grooming equipment online, inc books, dvd's and browsed a few forums for updates, otherwise I don't look at anything. Do you have any recommendations?:D

The beard will take ages - think Lakie or Airedale as an interim. Correctly trimmed Airedales have far less beard than people expect.
Remember a show Kerry wears the forelock in a cracker or clip when at home and some wear side crackers a la Bichon.

Funny, when I'm keeping him witha clean face it seems to grow realllllly fast  I'm not taking his topknot off til the beard sort of dictates for balance. He's going Japanese for a while.

Cayla, we're working on a new one just now that should be starting up in the autumn. :)

Start training his muzzle hair and forelock forwards. Especially the bit between the eyes (lipsalve is good for this)

You can take out the rear underjaw to the Kerry line which will make the beard look fuller.

Yes, you can't actually see it from the photo but I've already started taking the face lines in like a terrier (which is kind of from the profile what makes him look like a duck!). My hubby adores this dog, but he now likes his styling better too - I think he likes him cos he looks more like a puppy just now. He actually is something bedlington ish just now.
