FAO guiness8- Horse lorry fire

i can tell all about the lorry fire on the M6 as it was my friend's lorry! they were on their way to eland lodge when the thing just blew up on them and set on fire. as a strange coincidence i was on way back from eland lodge and they rang me- i went past on the other side of the M6 absolutely cr***ing myself about what was going on (by this point there were flames spurting out of the cab, fire engines the lot). they had to unload the neds whilst the traffic was still moving coz they'd spotted the flames but fortunately they are pretty level headed so didn't freak out. the rest you know about farmer and field. everything got burned out apart from a flame resistant sleeping bag (!) totally gutting. they didn't get back to yard til 8pm and it all happened about 2!

I have nightmares about that sort of thing happening. My friend has had two different lorrys go on fire with the horses inside and it was an electric ramp and the fire buggered it up so they couldnt getthe ramp to go down to get them out! since then ive gotten my friend (and owner of lorry) to show me how to disconect the ramp mecahanism so i can get horses out in an emergency.Knowing what id need to do make it less scary for me

It is very important to get the fuel lines on lorries checked regularly and always carry several full size fire extinguishers and hi-viz jackets on board so as to be able to stop the traffic.
