Just a quick questiona about tilt cabs if anyone could spare a minute :)....

I know its best to keep the tilt cab facility if possible on horseboxes. On newer boxes it seems to be the luton is attached to the cab and comes away from the main body of the box.....now on older boxes, where the luton is fixed to the body, how does the cab tilt forward?? i didnt think there was room as the cab seems to move up slightly and forward so the luton would be in the way...

Im asking as i have seen a lot of older boxes (stick sided hunting style boxes) which say its a tilt cab. I was just wondering how this is done. I know one box builder designs it so a panel at the front of the luton lifts up, allowing the cab to tilt forward, is this how they are all done?

thanks for reading :)

My lorry cab doesnt tilt at all it has a panel the comes off behind the seats giving access to the top of the engine.

They with either go through the front of the luton, or its a fixed box!

I would never buy a non-tilt, as labour is expensive and I can get my wonderful mechanic to come and do my box rather than needing pits or lifts.

In older boxes that have a facility to allow the cab to tilt then the base and front section of the luton are moveable or removable. However you need the owner to show you it in operation to ensure it can still be unbolted.

With very old boxes such as Bedord TK the cab could not be tilted and where an engine swop was required then the simplest way to do it is was to remove the container from the lorry (provided it is a bolt on and not a coach built one) and then remove the front windscreen and unbolt the cab from the chassis, disconect the electrics and lift it off using a fork lift truck with the forks lifting it up through the windscreen.

We used to do them the easy way. Drop the front axle off and take the engine out from underneath. Much simpler:D
