Ran my horse yesterday and hot favourite in the race travelled for a mile, then tried to run off the course and was effectively pulled up (National Hunt flat race).
When I was waiting for my horse to come in, said horse came by me and seemed ok, bearing in mind it had hacked home for a mile - so was cooling down/recovering to some extent.
Went to put my horse on the box to come home, about 2 hours later, and said horse was now walking round stables roaring like hell. I have never heard a horse roar like it - even during a 3m gallop on soft ground.
Any ideas?

Hi Vici
I have no idea!

Is it still making the noise or just whilst it was in the stable? It might be worth getting it scoped to ensure that there is no laryngeal collapse but then you would have expected to hear that when it was cantering back as well! Could it have inflammation in the larynx/pharynx that was maybe exacerbated by running? Have you had any viruses on your yard? I think the only way to get a better idea is to scope it and have a look.
Sorry I can't be any more helpful!
