Thought you might like to know how it's going after a few weeks? Feel free to ignore if you're now completely bored of it!
The hot chicken trick seems to have worked wonders, as I appear to have a reformed character on my hands! His recall is now spot on, it is very rare that I don't get an instant return, and unheard of to have to whistle more than once
I have now moved from hot chicken to hot dog sausages (cheaper!) and am reducing the size of reward (we're currently on mini sized ones, which I'll eventually start breaking up). I think I'll return to the chicken occasionally to make sure the lesson sticks but so far so good.
In fact I'm so pleased with the results I am going to try and apply the same trick to other behaviours I want him to learn - eg retrieve - something he happily does at home but is not so hot at outdoors. I think this trick has great potential for Henry's future!
