Many of you will remember Bo...he had been suffering from COPD the past 18 months or so and had been gradually deteriorating to the point where i took the decision to retire him a few weeks before christmas. Despite steroids, supplements and management changes he just couldn't fight off the wretched disease which took away his ability to do the things he loved.....jump, school and hack.
Yesterday, just a few weeks into his retirement, he collapsed in the field with his best mate of the past 4 years looking over him. They managed to get him up and back into his stable....but he was too weak and went down again....where he stayed. He was only twelve years old
He had gone off his food a couple of days earlier....although he was still more than happy to scoff the polo's and carrots i offered him the night before. The vet thinks his heart gave out due to the strain of trying to get enough oxygen. He seemed happy enough in the morning according to the girls who turned him out...but the damage was invisible.
RIP my special man...
