farm spreading-what is it?

my friend walked her dogs and some farm work was going on.
she said it was white powdery liquid and has the most awful stench.

what would this be?

coming from a massive container with a v long pipe over three fields then is spread by tractor. Then dries as a sort of greyish thick powder.

It could be lime, although that doesn’t usually smell.

If you’re by the coast it could be fish slurry, that’s white and really stinks lol. Or chicken.

Lots of farmers here will spread slurry via pipe now.


Nothing smells as bad as blood slurry. Which is still spread unfortunately even though illegal.

What part of the country OP? . If its white it may be lime waste from Sugar beet factories . If human it has to be incorporated very soon after application or applied in the ground nowadays. The other possibility is digestate from AD plants as that is being used as a fertiliser. Whatever it is it wont be harmful .
