The horses in our field have been happily snacking on the farmer's maize in the next field

apart from the dippy yearling that just doesn't get it

We wondered what they'd been up to as my boy and my friend's mare have got scabby bits on their chests (top 3 strands are barbed wire

going to get onto YO to get rid tomorrow) and have caught them leaning over the fence

So have attached fencer to top rail for now ( I know a bit mean but it works) but what I was wondering was.....
Does anyone know if that maize has a high energy content?
Thanks

Maize is a very high energy cereal (higher than oats and barley!) It is also fattening, generally fed to horses to put weight on and make them fizzier. Horses shouldn't really eat whole maize though as they can't digest it properly so can cause colic, so I would stop them eating it if I were you!
