I want to get my horse freezemarked, however i dont actually know anyone who has has it done themselves- all friends horses are done but were purchased that way.
The problem is i have read a couple of bad posts re farmkey, I dont know if this is just because people post when it go's wrong?
Whats everyone elses experience with them? Also surely it hurts, How do most horses react? I cant really afford to get them out just to be told my horse needs sedating and i have to pay all over again
Thanks xx

I found them really good
they can be a bit worried but forget all about it after some can react like this and some dont i dont really think it hurts much
they also have a time limit to when they come out for free to redo the markings etc its well worth the money

Freeze marking is an unusual sensation for the horse that dosent hurt as such, but a small minority do dislike it but if you ring freezemark ltd they will talk you through it and they are very experienced and understanding in my opinion

I had farmkey do mine last year and more than happy with the service. I have had to have them back out to remark 2 of the horses i had done (had seven done in total) which you do not have to pay for. I was worried when i had it done what if one of mine would be that bad i could not have it done but the lady told me she does not have that happen very often and if it does it's because she can't get near the horse to clip out the patch to freeze mark on. Maybe just have some ACP handy just in case.

Oh thanks everyone that all sounds more hopeful!
Where do you get ACP- I have never needed it before, can you just get it from the vet without them coming out?
I will stick the clippers on my horse and see how he feels about that!
Good luck showjump2003- let us know how it go's!

I had George done by farmkey, can't say I was that impressed with their office side of things but the technician who came out was on time and really good and calm with George

. He didn't seem bothered by the process at all, in fact he was thrilled he got fed lots of nice things whilst it was being done

! Unfortunately I did have to have George's redone (completely free of charge) it was supposed to be S61D but ended up as S0ld

! Has come out perfectly now. Both times I was back riding in 5 days.

I found them good, bar the technician forcing the issue with the clippers. I offered to sedate her which would have taken 10-15mins and left everyone happier, but she chose to just try despite my warnings.

Marking had to be redone as the mare is grey. That was free of charge. On a grey it can end up black or pink, the pink does burn so be prepared for having to use suncream on it. I was riding in 2 weeks as my mare was so sensitive, couldn't get rugs on her or touch her near side for days.

Really there is nothing to worry about. The people who do the marking are very experienced, and if you have some feed or hay nearby it will help to distract the horse. I tend to use Freezemark.biz instead of Farmkey, but only because I have known Mary for many years and have stayed with her and find that since they are a bit smaller the admin is more efficient.

I have known horses barely notice the marking, and only had one grey, many years ago, who objected quite strongly (she was an opinionated madam though) but we managed to get her marked in one session without any sedation.

I have had Farmkey do 2 horses in the past. The first was a full freezemark with 4 irons, the second was just a micromark with a single iron.

No problems at all, I thought they were very good.

I have had Farmkey to do 5 horses in the past never had any problems even with the youngsters

they came back out straight away to re do one which was free would use them again

Two of mine are S51d and S50d which looks like sid and sod we didn't notice it untill it had been done.

The posts here show a problem far more common with farmkey than Freezemark - redo - in most circumstances they should not need to be redone.
