Is this as effective as a deterrent as a regular freezemark (it is basically a small upside down Omega symbol, showing the horse has a microchip)? I like the idea of only having to put one cold iron on my horse as I'm not sure he'd tolerate more well, but don't know if it would be as effective.
 
I considered this, but the thing that put me off is that someone would still have to get a microchip reader to identify the horse.
The thing I think is great about freezemarks is that anyone can read them, horsey or not, all you need is a working pair of eyes, and the ability to recognise letters and numbers!

Exactly why we have ours freezemarked. Then if they were to get stolen there would be thousands of pairs of eyes watching out for them and they can be seen from a safe distance. With a microchip you'd have to carry a scanner with you AND be able to get close enough to the horse yadda yadda...
