I cant get hold of my usual farrier and am getting a bit fed up of it as I need my horse shod for his first ODE of the season in a fornight! Could anyone list names and if possible, phone nums of farriers which may be taking people on? Its only 1 horse. And it would be extremely useful if you could say how much they charge for say, a full set of shoes. My current farrier charges £50 which I believe is the cheapest in the area, I dont fancy paying £90ish that I've heard some charge!!

£50 for a full set?!! I pay 70 something now! I use Ron Aiken who I know can be difficult to get hold off but i'm at a big livery yard so he comes every 7weeks to shoe about 10 of us so is booked in advance. Can PM you his number if you like?

Again I could recommend Ron Aitken. I used him for 17 years and only stopped using him as I moved to Edinburgh. Last time he I used him I was £70. He can be a pain to get hold of and always booked in for 7 weeks and never had a problem that way.

If you are West Abs (Aboyne way) I use Bill Chapman - used to be £65 for a full set and £10 to trim the barefoot girl tho Ive taken the shod one barefoot too now and pay £50 for both to be trimmed (has to be worth his while to come up as I am out of the way).

Hard to book definite date for next appt but he is quite good in emergencies. PM me if you want his number, he'll only take on local ones as he is busy.
