Farrier and other hoof folks

Thats for the farrier in question to decide. Same as the horse owner who is more guilty here, i suspect the poor man although he or even she may not like it, this is our job and like anything the customer is always right. If the farrier has a problem then he can decline the work.

Something like this will not stop with farriers as this is down to the associations in question which require and encourage this type and style of shoeing. And the owners.

I dont shoe horses like this, besides you find very little of this in the UK it is a predominantly American thing

America is a wonderful place as far as foot care is concered. They have contributed some great things to the world of farriery and are trying to cripple it in the same breath.

They are too extreme

Not asking you to argue against another farrier's work, just trying to work out the likely effect on tendons for a start. I'm guessing you wouldn't shoe like this even if there was money to be made.

i would not. I have though but only the once as my training boss shoes some horses that are shod a bit like this. (he was away thats why i did it because i had too) otherwise i had nothing to do with those horses really. Its very specific and is only done for the showing world

I can comment on the tendon thing and the wear and tear. everything about these horses is unatural and they breakdown fairly quickly. there is minimal (i dont want to say none because im not a tendon and cannot acoount for them) but its all within the correct HPA angles and should not create any extra strain.

A likely story, it looks like the donk is winning.

Thanks for commenting, I understand you need to exercise caution, but it's good to get a professional opinion. There is much cruelty in that particular sport, as many know.
