Hello lovely forumites,

I'm having a bit of trouble with current farrier and can't seem to find an alternative in my area. Am I imagining things or do I have a bad farrier?

1) when he saw my horse first time he couldn't advise me whether to go shod or barefoot (was shod), decided to try barefoot (20 pounds);

2) next day horse was schooled in a sand arena for 20 mins, came in with absolutely trashed feet, I mean it was like a mop, absolutely chipped all over;

3) farrier says: we better shoe him now, that'll be another 65 pounds; horse is nervous (5yo) so farrier gives him a right kick in the ribs then uses the twitch until the end of shoeing;

4) next shoeing happens when I'm away, I come back apparently a week after shoeing and the shoes are not so well sealed to the foot - I mean there is a slight space between the shoe and foot. I don't complain.

5) when I try to book 2 weeks in advance farrier says he's very busy, I then ask if he could recommend me anyone to use while he's busy and he says "oh if you want to shop around you can do that as much as you like" :( tried to explain it to him that I of course preferred him but he seems genuinely offended! have spoken to a friend in the yard and she said after I called him she asked him to shoe her horse and he did it 2 days later!

6) now I have a loose shoe and don't have a farrier! crazy! this guy is the only farrier on my yard :( what do I do now :(

Sounds like a farrier that some people used on my old yard.

Not called Del is he???

If someone kicked my horse in the ribs I would knock them out for a week.

Your better off without.

I'll ask my farrier tomorrow as although thats not his area he might know someone.

Oh thanks soooo much, would be greatly appreciated. His name is different :) but I feel I better off without him all the same!
I also intend to ask my vets, maybe they'll know somebody.

That's a good idea.

My farrier turns up on time, does a fab job on their feet taking his time and would never ever kick a horse in the ribs! :mad:

You and your horse are much better off.

Will pm you tomorrow :)
