If you Google his name, you'll see numerous articles with screenshots from CCTV of the attack.

He has previous for killing a dog and abusing an ex partner.

He's banned from working with animals but that doesn't always stop people like him. He apparently also breeds springers.

No idea how he continued to have clients after his previous convictions 🤬

The chap who did the first few trims/shoeings of my mare before I bought her is a highly rated farrier in these parts.

He swore at her, beat her with a rasp, called her names I didn't even know, and then insisted she was sedated for shoeing. She didn't do a thing wrong really, and any fidgeting and snatching was more due to the owners not having handled her feet properly in advance. They still think he's a wonderful farrier.

I bought her, moved yards, and for the short time I had her shod, the new farrier didn't have a single issue with her at all. Which was surprising given her early experiences

Happens far more often than ever comes to light. I never understand why people who hate animals choose to work with them.
Because they go into the work liking them, and then, over time, they become bitter, angry and desensitised to abuse. They can't/don't want to retrain to get a new career, so they just take out all their problems on the animals.

At the bad yards I've been at, you could always tell you'd worked there the longest because they were the first to ignore a lameness, because it meant more work for them and trouble with the management, or hit a horse who making their life difficult.

Poor horse and that POOR DOG😭 Six minutes? I'd kill him.

I never leave my horse alone with a farrier, even if I can't be there myself there are always other people dotting about. He happens to be very good with getting his feet done, no bother, but I still like to be about.

I'm not saying all farriers would do anything bad, but I, in my relatively short experience in the equine world, have personally seen two incidences where supposed "good" farriers have reacted angrily - both times the horses REALLY didn't do anything wrong, just fidgeted a small amount (and I've seen horses which PROPER react and the farrier has quickly and calmly avoided the situation escalating). Both times the farriers thought no-one was about.

What a complete scumbag, may karma catch up with him fast. His explanation was he was stressed as his mother was dying, yes because that makes you beat defenceless animals you piece of crap. I never let anyone work on my horses without me present, after a bad experience years ago but we should be able to trust the professionals we employ. Poor horse, he could have easily broke its legs. Thank god he got caught on CCTV.

I am guessing that the police would have looked at his contact in other roles to see if there is any transference of risk.

Although the LA that i worked for were concerned with referrals made by children or on behalf of children against a person in position of trust and obviously didn't extend to animals, the police might argue that he may be considered to be in a ‘position of trust’ as he may have contact with children or adults at risk as part of his employment or voluntary work. For example shoeing horses at a RDA place where children at risk might be.

And of course if he hits a horse with such ferocity there is nothing to say this couldn't extend to dogs or humans if he loses his rag. And it looks like its been alleged he has already killed a dog previously.

Thank you very much Sealine. Not even close to enough then, a lifetime ban and a strong custodial sentence should have been the minimum.

He should have gone to jail. Nasty little bully. If he had done that to a horse of mine he would have not got away with so lightly.
