Right I dont know anything about shoeing so thought I would ask all you knowladagable people

Basically the whole yard use the same farrier, now I was just wondering is it normal to always cold shoe? because he used to hot shoe pickle then suddenly this stopped completely!

Also if a horse looses a front shoe should it just be replaced by a new shoe, or if the horse will just have to have them all done in 1-2 weeks should that be done.

Luckily Pickle has never lost a shoe since I have had him *touches lots of wood* so havent had many problems

Knowledge Please

I cant complain about anything until I have facts straight

There is nothing wrong with cold shoeing if your horse's feet match the shoes and with Pickles not losing any shoes then I guess he is doing fine with cold shoeing. But just check you are not getting charged for being hot shod as it should be cheaper.

It depends when a horse looses a shoe. He looses it in the first couple of weeks then a new shoe would just be whacked on but if its towards the end of the shoes then he might as well do all shoes. But it depends if he has the time to do a whole horse as an emergancy call out. He may just have to put the shoe on and come back and do the others when it was booked in for.

not normally, but depends
hot shoeing gets better results, BUT there are cases where farrier should cold shoe
If horse losses shoe, should defo be replaced straight away with either thrown shoe (this can be either replaced by hot shoeing or cold depend of condition of hoof and sole etc...) or farrier need to fit new
But i would advise you to chat to your farrier get a working relationship going.... they are professionals and should explain their job to you... If you ask and are interested they will be most happy to impart their knowledge, but i know you can have interesting ones
