Is it just in the south east or do all frarriers not answer calls? Mine was great to start with and answered all my calls and over the years, I have put new clients his way. Over the past year, he does not answer calls or txt messages. Ralph is shod every 6 weeks and I always pay on time. I was unable to be at the yard for the last shoeing and 10 calls later got hold of him to find out when he was coming back.

Ralph threw a shoe on Sat having only been shod last week, I've called and txt all weekend and this morning. In the end, I made arrangements for another farrier to come tomorrow morning..........then at last I got a call and have managed to save myself £20

Mine always answers a call or text straight away. He is one in a million though and such a nice person

I expect it will all change when he turns 50 and changes into a grumpy old git!!!!

Thankfully thats about 100 years away

My "regular" farrier is fab, always answers his phone and if he can't then he'll call back if I leave a message or not. If he's going to be more than about 30 minutes late on the day, he'll call me and let me know.
The farrier I have trimming Maiden while she's on field rest (out of original farrier's area) is useless. Always grumpy (and even when he's not he's so sarcastic you can't tell), hardly ever returns calls, and sometimes he just won't turn up. Worst of all, he's a damned good farrier on a good day but on a bad one he can mutilate even the best feet. Never mind, only six more trims until I can have my old farrier back!

Blimey - poor farriers! If my horse threw a shoe, I'd leave a message for the farrier but maybe ringing and texting all weekend is a bit much? Maybe if you'd have left a message he'd have got back to you after he'd finished work?

My farrier is really good at his job and always replies, spent 2 hours on his day off sorting Finn's new shoeing regime. Will come asap if he throws a shoe, doesn't charge if it happens in within 2 weeks of being shod. And is very easy on the eye in the summer in his vest.

Ours is excellent at answering the phone, you just have to be sensible about when you call, I wouldn't dream of ringing him over the weekend. I did accidently ring him when he was on holiday and he answered the phone while up a mountain snow boarding!

... what's this about turning 50 and becoming a grumpy old git ..... hold on there I am not a grumpy old git, or am I

My Farrier is always on time, responds to texts and phone calls and has only not managed to get to me once in 17 years, and that was because the road was closed

.... however he is a grumpy old git and a pre-maddona, but not yet 50

No not all!!!Mine is fab!!!If i cant get hold of him by ringing i assume he is busy and text, not very often but if my ned thrown a shoe he knows it will cripple him(tb,crap when front lost, lol),he has even come out at 7.30pm before at short notice, not charged either!!And nooooooo before anyone decides to be clever, lmao

Ouch that hurts.......horse was only shod last week and has lost foot so has had to stay in, I wasn't being a bunny boiler, managed to get through to my friends farrier on the first attempt and he was willing to come at 7am, just highlighting a wee problem

I've been with my farrier for years. He normally arrives on time. If he's held up he phones & he responds to text messages. He rarely takes on new clients as his book is full & has been for along time........ no one ever leaves him

where abouts are you in the south east im there too and who do you have if you are maidstone way theres a farrier called clifford martin hes good even if he misses your call he phone back

My farrier's fab - he is always on time, calls if he may not be and also if my horse loses a shoe (which he did last week) i can call him and, more often than not he will be somewhere in the area (or will be the next day) an will come and replace the shoe. He came out within 1 hr last week!

Thing is you generally (although not on this thread which i think is unusual and maybe things are improving in the farrier world!) hear stories from v frustrated horse owners whose farriers are sooo unbelievably unreliable (we have a few round our way) and it astounds me that (a) the horse owners put up with it and (b) how these farrirs stay in business when they are renowned for not turning up when they should? (a friend was waiting for hours for hers and he never showed and never rung to say and didn't answer his phone either!)

Fair enough then - I just know people who are a bit 'OTT' with their vet/farrier!
